A 33-year-old man previously sought by Sheriff’s Police detectives in connection with a hit-and-run incident in unincorporated Maine Township is now in custody and facing multiple serious charges.
Authorities had earlier identified Rovell Young of Chicago as the driver involved in a May 25 incident in the 9000 block of West Oaks Avenue, where a woman was struck by a vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
According to investigators, Young turned himself in to Sheriff’s Police detectives on June 1 following public appeals for information. Officials noted that assistance from the community, including the sharing of his information, played a role in locating him.
Further investigation revealed that the incident extended beyond a hit-and-run. Detectives allege that Young attacked the victim inside her residence, took her purse, and then struck her with a vehicle while fleeing the scene. The Chicago Police Department also assisted in identifying Young as the suspect.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has since charged Young with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, robbery, and obstruction. He was ordered held in custody at the Cook County Jail on June 3 following his initial court appearance at the Skokie Courthouse.
Authorities remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
