Family, friends, and members of the Santa Clarita community are mourning the loss of Jeffrey Koons, a 47-year-old man whose body was discovered in a parking lot at Valencia Town Center on Wednesday.
According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in an overflow lot south of Magic Mountain Parkway. A dealership employee in the area noticed the vehicle and contacted authorities for a welfare check.
When deputies arrived, they located Koons deceased inside or near the vehicle. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau was notified and responded to the scene to begin an investigation. Authorities later reported the presence of a firearm and a shattered window near the location.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Jeffrey Koons and noted he was experiencing homelessness at the time of his death, living in the vehicle where he was found.
